Whether your powered by a Cummins, Duramax or Powerstroke, no matter what they have a lot of power but.  For msot men “a lot” is never enough. There are many ways to add power to a diesel powered truck but the below 3 ways are what every diesel truck should have done.

 

Intake- Most stock air filtration systems are very restrictive on diesel trucks. The installation of an aftermarket cold air intake system allows your diesel engine to breathe more freely by removing the restrictive case around the filter. Most aftermarket intake filters also have better surface area allowing more air to flow to the engine. A lot of the aftermarket kits have a shorter and more direct path to the diesel engine than stock filters that might have curves and baffles that could cause some resistance. Intake systems combined with other aftermarket diesel modifications will help with both horsepower and fuel mileage. Some of the bigger name intake systems are AFE, Airaid, Banks, Bully Dog, K&N etc…

 

Exhaust- Performance diesel exhaust systems usually come in 4” or 5” kits and are basically a complete exhaust replacement from the stock exhaust. Performance exhaust kits allow exhaust fumes to flow more freely from the diesel engine out the tail pipe. These systems eliminate the restrictive stock muffler and the crimp bent pipes. Performance exhaust systems use mandrel bent pipes to keep the inside diameter of the pip as smooth and non restrictive as possible. Performance diesel exhaust systems will increase horsepower and torque, increase fuel mileage, reduce the exhaust gas temps and give you a tougher sounding exhaust system. Programmers- One of the most popular aftermarket products for diesel trucks are programmers. They basically hook into your trucks computer, download the stock settings and then upload the performance settings of the programmer. These units are the easiest way to get big horsepower and torque gains out of your truck with a minimal investment. There are no parts installed, just plug and play so they are easy to use. Most programmers will give you the option to tune your truck for towing, sport, efficiency etc… so you can customize the way your truck runs depending on your situation. Common programmer makes are Banks, Bully Dog, Edge, Hypertech, SCT, TS, etc…
